
Biography
Dâvi Simard is a multi-instrumentalist musician, fiddler, composer, arranger and producer from Lac-Saint-Jean. A prominent figure in the Quebec traditional music scene, he is distinguished by an artistic approach deeply rooted in French-Canadian heritage, which he combines with a bold, authentic and contemporary sound.
An eclectic composer, Dâvi revisits the traditional repertoire with freshness and modernity, creating bridges between genres and eras. He constantly explores new ways of arranging old pieces while respecting their essence.
His work spans multiple artistic spheres: traditional music, stage music, audiovisual creation, sound design, electronic music, and transdisciplinary projects. His versatility and keen sense of sound dramaturgy make him a sought-after collaborator both on stage and in the studio. He has worked with companies such as Cirque Alfonse, La Ruée vers l'Or, La R'voyure, La Sporée, Couleur.tv, Robin C, Pitoresk, and many others, on projects involving circus, dance, storytelling, puppetry, and audiovisual production.
In addition to composing, Dâvi is a tireless explorer of traditional fiddle music and is interested in early Quebec and French-Canadian repertoires. He pays particular attention to different ways of tuning the fiddle and variations in temperament, thus fostering an instrumental approach that is both scholarly and intuitive. He has shared his knowledge at fiddle camps such as Violon Trad Québec, Camp Souche à Oreille, and Fiddle Tune.
In 2021, his work was recognized with nominations at the ADISQ and Opus Awards, attesting to his significant contribution to Quebec music. On stage, he performs solo or alongside artists and companies such as Cirque Alfonse, Oumigmag, Cédric Dind-Lavoie, Damien Robitaille, and many others.
Alongside his musical career, Dâvi Simard also distinguishes himself as an ultramarathon runner. In 2023, he set a world record for foot-stomping lasting 12 hours, a physical and artistic feat that illustrates his tenacity and passion for performance.
